The Annual “Lighting of the Village” at Fishermens Village in Punta Gorda on November 19th, 2011
Fishermens Village in Punta Gorda Isles celebrated the ringing in of the holiday season this past Saturday on November 19th, 2011 with their annual event entitled The Lighting of The Village. Over one million christmas lights were put up throughout the village alongside deocrations and photo oppurtunity scenes for the upcoming christmas season. Horse Carriage rides were provided by Red Star Riding Ranch giving tours of the village and a photo oppurtunity scene at the frotn of the village with a baby calf that children and adults alike were allowed to pet in additon to Santa Claus who was on site with a florida twist to his sled being led by dolphin as opposed to the traditional reindeer. Live entertainment was provided at the main stage in the center court by Lee County Pipes and Drums, Charlotte Chorale Dickens Carolers, and the Boogiemen. Luis the Balloon artist and face and body airbrush art were on site and provided a popular destination for parents and children. Just one canned good served as admission to the event and the food went directly to the Good Samaritans Food Pantry of Charlotte County, the lighting of the village will continue each night until December 19th, 2011. The Salvation Army Angel Tree is set up at the Center Court and you can go to the tree and select the name of a needy child and bring your gift to Beneath the Sea to further help out during this extremely difficult time if you choose to do so.
