Gallery Walk Coverage in Downtown Punta Gorda from December 15th, 2011
The Gallery Walk in the downtown Punta Gorda took place once again on last Thursday on December 15th, 2011. The event takes place every third Thursday of the month as a way of integrating the community with local artists who set up shop in some of the downtown establishments. The event also caters to musicians as the majority of restaurants in downtown Punta Gorda host live music as entertainment for patrons and walking pedestrians who are out strolling around the sidewalks to enjoy the sights and scenes of the Gallery Walk. Higher Grounds Performing Arts Studio held several entertainment acts (Video Below) that included a street inspired break dancing trio of dancers, a trio of ballerinas, a solo ballet performance, and Christmas carols song to the spectating crowd. Philip Wilson set up along the sidewalk in downtown Punta Gorda and performed a three hour set on Saxophone (Video Below) in various locations as he has in the past several months to continue raising funds for the Relay For Life Cancer Awareness Fundraiser upcoming in March of 2012. Justin Green, a professional magician whos resume includes private entertainment for several corporations and the Detroit Pistons was in town to visit his father for the Holidays, he also decided to spend his Thursday evening at the Gallery Walk(Video Below) and spent a solid hour and a half downtown displaying his talent for anyone who cared to see. The In-Vincibles Trio was performing on the Corner of Jacks Restaurant throughout the course of the night bringing their energetic yet laid back sound that perfectly complimented the event, Guitarist Marcia Mucci performed a four hour set at the Celtic Ray (Video Below) on Acoustic Guitar playing for patrons at the bar and those enjoying a nice evening meal at the Ray. The new group of young Artists who previously were seen painting adjacently to Table 209 set up on the sidewalk (Video Below) of U.S 41 Southbound in between Cubbys Ice Cream and Shorties Pub. The group included new faces and additions to the group and branched outside of painting and drawing as one of the artists performed some original work on guitar and the group engaged in making a documentary that told the story of the event even as far as going around the greater downtown area and one of the artists doing detailed sketches of patrons for free for many of the residents. This was just a small portion of an event that encompasses several blocks and nearly ever business and open square foot of the downtown area, I look forward to expanding coverage to new unexplored areas next month and hope that this port inspires you to get out and do the same.
