The weekly gathering of local and out of area musicians at Gilchrist Park for the Punta Gorda Guitar Army took place last evening on February 23rd, 2012. Gorgeous spring weather provided idea weather for the mass gathering of local music afficinados, musicians, and patrons taking a walk in the park last night. The event also saw hands down one of the largest amounts of talent in the park with the main banquet pavilion serving as playing grounds for the ensemble of musicians playing a wide variety of instruments, the gazebo being called home to the acoustical veterans of the event, and several makeshift groups of bluegrass players in the center of the park including one very large gathering of bluegrass pickers. Chris Collins was on site performing classical based pieces on her hammer dulcimet accompanied with the tones of acoustic guitar. A new entry to the event saw a karaoke disc jockey offering his services to patrons who would feel like chiming in on the feel of the event. Food services were offered to patrons with Scotties Dawg House serving up Chicago styled dogs and the Working Cow offering on site hand scooped ice cream.
