Feb 29, 2012

The Charlotte Tarpon Baseball program faced off in a district match game against Port Charlotte High School last evening on February 28th, 2012.
The climax of the game took place in the top of the seventh inning when the Tarpons stepped up to the plate in a one to one tie game deadlock. Charlotte led off the inning with a walk to put a base runner on first base, this was then followed by a bunt down the center of infield which was scooped up by the pirate pitcher who then overthrew his second basemen in an attempt to stop the advancing runner which resulted in a no out situation with two Charlotte base runners on base. The pirated then decided to bring in a different pitcher in hopes to get out of the jam that they had found them selves in. The Port Charlotte pitcher then walked the next Tarpon player at bat to create a no out bases loaded scenario, the pirates pitcher continued to struggle with his command that ultimately saw him walking that last tarpon at bat to advance all on base runners including that Tarpon player at third base which broke the tie and gave Charlotte the win for the evening. The pitching efforts of Jake Fossick and Dillon McDermott proved once again to be a dominating force on the mound which saw them being a deciding factor in the contest, Jake retired five batters on strikeout during the evening while allowing no hits while Dillon allowed only one hit over nearly three innings and earning five strikeouts to his tally. The final score of the game was 2-1 with the Tarpons earning them selves a district win on the evening.

Charlotte will face off against Bishop Verot High School this evening on February 29th, 2012 at Victor Desguin High School located at Charlotte High School.
